Emily Al-Khatib and her husband, Saad, make their home in the mountains of Northeast Tennessee. They have four boys who love to rise before the sun, ready for each day’s new adventures on their small farm.
Emily earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a minor in secondary education from King College in Bristol, TN, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching from Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN. She has had the privilege of teaching math for six years in grades 8-12 in the public schools.
As God was leading Emily and Saad to homeschool, they tried several different ways of education, floundering in them all. Emily is so grateful that through a very dear friend, the Lord guided her to Charlotte Mason. She dove in head first and has been constantly in awe of her Indefatigable Teacher who has gently brought her and her family into this way of education overflowing with beauty, goodness, and truly an abundant life.
Emily is passionate about sharing a Charlotte Mason education, especially in regards to math.
When not busy with homeschooling, Emily is usually reading, doing farm chores, hiking, drinking coffee, or exploring the mountain streams with her family in the quest for a new fishing hole.
Heather Schultz and her husband, Geoffrey, reside in Arizona. They have four kids and love raising them in the Sonoran Desert.
Heather started tutoring friends in her eighth grade algebra class. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in secondary math education from the University of Arizona. During that time she worked in a variety of public schools with 3rd-12th graders.
Upon graduating, she taught at a Christian middle and high school for four years. She then came home to raise their kids and continued tutoring students as well as teaching 6th-12th grade homeschool students.
Once Geoffrey and Heather became parents they began to consider what they wanted for their own family. Heather loves doing research and landed on using the Charlotte Mason Method when her oldest was four years old. The more she learns about the Charlotte Mason Method, the more she loves it and how it aligns with God’s Word.
Heather’s favorite part of teaching math is the challenge of getting students to conceptually understand and enjoy it. She loves the beauty and absolute truth of mathematics as a reflection of God’s character. She still remembers the first time she learned about older students doing arithmetic, geometry, and algebra concurrently, and thinking it was brilliant.
The majority of Heather’s time is spent caring for her family and home. Weekly built-in activities include participating at church, hiking with homeschool families, doing hospitality, and touching base with friends. For Mother Culture, she will often be found reading, researching her newest homeschool topic of interest, crocheting, or blogging.
